Training!

Well, we're about a month away from leaving on our Camino.

For those of you not familiar, the Camino, popularized recently by the 2010 movie "The Way", is an 800 km walk from southeast France across northern Spain.  It officially ends at Santiago de Compostella but people often walk another 80 km farther to the ocean at Finisterre.  There's lots of information about this pilgrimage on Wikipedia and we encourage you to check that out.

So, we're getting ourselves conditioned to do our walk ... which entails a daily walk of about 20 to 25 km, carrying a pack of 15 to 20 lbs.  We leave in the second week of September and expect to take 5 to 6 weeks to make our way to the end.

We've been walking an increasing amount over the last few weeks and are now up to about 80 km over 4 to 5 days of the week.  We've been walking many areas in and around Victoria, learning quite a bit about the beautiful green spaces we have.  Our conditioning is gradually improving and we're also dropping a few pounds as we move toward the final countdown.

We hope to make this blog our way of keeping family and friends up to date on our travels - as well as hearing from you while we're on our way.  We may need encouragement from time to time!
