The first few days

Denmark has been terrific so far! We arrived early Thursday afternoon (local time) and were met at the airport by our friends Erik and Margit, which got the visit off to a great start. We were determined to stay awake the rest of the day, so after a shower and delicious lunch of assorted meats, cheeses, breads, etc., we went for a long walk around their neighbourhood in Hillroed, about 30 km north of Copenhagen. The area is quite rural and very pretty, with many trails that are pleasant to walk.
The next morning we got an early start and visited the local castle which is magnificent. The tour buses had not yet arrived, so it was just us and the gardeners, which was perfect.
That evening our friends had planned a reception for us at their home, so we were able to meet all of their close friends and family. Everyone made us so welcome, and because they all speak English, it was easy to communicate!
Yesterday we attended an annual outdoor concert near the town of Ledre, on the grounds of the Ledreborg Palace. The program included well known songs from musicals, with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra providing the background music. People had taken picnic lunches and were enjoying just being outside, as the Danish summer has not been great this year. Unfortunately the rain started just before the intermission, so everyone madly scrambled to put on rain gear. It was pretty unpleasant but we all hung in there and stayed until the end.  The climax was quite spectacular, with the lead singer appearing on the balcony of the palace, singing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" from Evita.
Today we took the train to Copenhagen and enjoyed walking to some great sights then taking a one hour canal tour. It was a nice day so we saw the city at its' best, with locals and tourists out in full force!
Will post a few photos now - tomorrow we head to Roskilde to see the Viking Museum and Cathedral.
I am having technical problems with posting photos, so there will be no captions!!
